Questions for reflection...

Do you think your country is ‘developed’? What are your parameters for evaluating development? Where do these parameters come from?

What are the parameters for development (or achievement and merit) within your community (please define community in any way you want)?

How does your community see itself in relation to other communities? How do you think other communities see your community and why?

How do you think you contribute (or not) for the development of your country or community? Who have established the criteria for this contribution? Are there any groups that would have more difficulties of meeting this criteria?

Should all countries be aiming for one (universal) ideal of development? Who should define this ideal? What would be the implications of going in this direction?

In agreement with DFID’s ethical statement that

Solutions to poverty must be rooted in, and acceptable to, the institutions, communities and societies where they will operate. (DFID/ESRC specifications for research on poverty reduction 2005)

This project aims to help educators develop the skills to make connections between what different people value and want to happen in relation to the development agenda, in order to open the possibility for more ethical grounds for dialogue and engagement with global perspectives.
